Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 28,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. With a dedicated staff of more than 2,900, Grand Erie is committed to learning, leading and inspiring. The Education Centre is located in Brantford.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join the Human Resources team as Health and Disability Officer. The position holds responsibility for implementation of the Board’s Health & Disability Management Procedures, which includes absence tracking, initiating follow up to obtain medical documentation, developing return to work plans, and facilitating workplace accommodations.  The role also includes responsibility for Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) case management, Long-Term Disability Plans (LTD), and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Responsibilities to include:
  • Management and oversight of occupational and non-occupational health and disability cases.
  • Identifying and responding to emergent, confidential, complex, and highly sensitive issues regarding medical absences and ensure appropriate documentation.
  • Development of return-to-work plans and facilitate workplace accommodations.
  • Develop and implement pro-active health and wellness processes for positive outcomes.
  • Provide training, advice, guidance, and assistance to supervisors in the administration of programs to ensure effective and timely return-to-work, attendance support management, and staff productivity.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date employee records are maintained, including information on employee claim appeals and grievances.
  • Coordinate and administer Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims and Long-term Disability (LTD) plans.
  • Responsible for oversight of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), including vendor relationship management and contract management with EAP service delivery partners.
  • Develop and analyze key metrics on disability management.
  • Position will also support the Human Resources administration of the OMERs Pension Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Human Resources.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Post-Secondary degree with a minimum of three years relevant experience in an equivalent role; or the equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Board
  • School Board experience an asset
  • Experience working with a large employer with multiple working conditions and bargaining unit agreements
  • Extensive knowledge of WSIB Policies and Procedures, Attendance Management, Adjudication Standards, Ontario Health and Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA and any other relevant legislation
  • Knowledge and interest in current and emerging disability practices and standards
  • Strong customer service focus with an equally strong work ethic, with an ability to problem solve issues, multi-task, and prioritize
  • Advanced computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Suite including experience with Outlook 365, Parklane, Laserfiche, etc.
  • Excellent reading, writing, and oral skills, to interpret and address complex and sensitive information such as financial information, contracts, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, tact and sensitivity in dealing with internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment
  • Ability to stay calm in busy and stressful situations, effectively addressing challenges while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team
 
Job Specifications
Hours of Work 7 hours per day/35 hours per week
Rate of Pay $75,788 - $86,125
A competitive benefits plan is available through a provincial benefits trust plan.
Effective Date As soon as can be mutually arranged.
