                                                                 TEMPORARY INDIGENOUS GRADUATION COACH
                                                                               H.B. Beal Secondary School
                                                                               (February - September 2025)



REPORTS TO:      System Principal, Indigenous Education and Superintendent of Student Achievement 
TERM:                    February to September 2025 
LOCATION:            H.B. Beal Secondary School, London
SALARY RANGE:  $36.44 + 4% vacation  pay  (35 hours per week)     
DEADLINE:            2025 January 22 @ 4:00 p.m.


POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Learning Support Services team, the Indigenous Graduation Coach will work directly with schools in support of achievement for all Indigenous students.  Working closely with school-based student success teams, the Temporary Indigenous Graduation Coach will act as a mentor and advisor to students, facilitating access and referrals to academic supports and community resources, as well as advocating for students with teachers, school staff, and families.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Working directly within schools serving Indigenous students to support and mentor students transition into secondary school, as well as their ongoing development and pathway to graduation, the Temporary Indigenous Graduation Coach’s responsibilities will include
:
  •            Building positive relationships with Indigenous students by identifying barriers and solutions to student learning,  engagement, and well-being
  •              Building/maintaining profiles for each individual student
  •              Leading and implementing programs, services and other supports to meet individual student needs
  •              Assisting in the coordination of cultural opportunities for students
  •              Assisting in the tracking of student data
  •              Working with Principals, Student Success Teams, Guidance Teams, First Nation Counsellors and Teachers to assist in  interventions to remove barriers to student well-being, engagement and learning
  •              Working with families and community members in support of Indigenous students
  •              Building/establishing relationships with the Indigenous communities
  •              Assisting students in connecting with community resources
  •              Working with community partners to establish opportunities for students
  •              Acting as an advocate and role model for students in pathways planning related to graduation and post-secondary destinations
  •              Locating and creating opportunities to build relationships with Indigenous students and families through community events

QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful completion of a two (2) year degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies/Services, First Nations Family Support/Community Worker, or related field.  

Familiarity with local First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures, perspectives, and values.  Skilled in building trusting, respectful and safe relationships with Indigenous youth; ablility to mentor and be an advisor to Indigenous students; experience working with Indigenous students, their families and communities within our region is required.  Experience working in an Indigenous community and/or with Indigenous families is required. First Nations, Métis, or Inuit ancestry is an asset.
